Allied health professions expert joins NHS Improvement

Dr Joanne Fillingham is joining us as our first Clinical Director for Allied Health Professions.

Dr Fillingham’s appointment as part of our Nursing Directorate will further strengthen our clinical leadership to help provide invaluable support to allied health professionals (AHPs).

Her primary role will be to provide expertise on how we can work to support trusts in the professional development of AHPs and expanding their career opportunities.

Ruth May, Executive Director of Nursing at NHS Improvement, said:

“Allied health professionals up and down the country provide an invaluable service, not just to patients, but to the system as a whole. They are a diverse workforce that plays a critical role in our NHS.

“I am delighted that we have appointed Dr Fillingham. With her fantastic experience she will be able to help NHS Improvement develop better ways to support AHPs now and long into the future.”

In recognition of the importance of this role and the growing collaboration between us and NHS England, Suzanne Rastrick, Chief Allied Health Professions Officer for England, has also nominated this post as the second Deputy Chief Allied Health Professions Officer.
