Helping Gloucestershire Hospitals make sure patients are seen quickly in A&E

We'll be providing extra support to Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to help ensure patients in Gloucester and Cheltenham are seen more quickly in A&E.

Following an investigation by Monitor in March, the trust put in place an improved A&E recovery plan. However, waiting times are still too high and we've found that further, sustained action by the trust is needed.

We're working closely with the trust to help it make improvements to its A&E and ensure its Board supports these improvements.

What the trust is doing

The trust has already begun to take some important action, including efforts by its clinical team to improve the patient experience.

A new chief executive has also joined Gloucestershire Hospitals and the trust has appointed an Improvement Director to provide additional expert advice on improving emergency care.

To help make sure these improvements continue and happen as quickly as possible for patients, the trust will work with other local health and social care organisations so that urgent care services outside the hospital complement and support the improvements inside the hospital.

We'll monitor the trust’s progress and may take further regulatory action if necessary.
