Intensive emergency care support week in Worcester

We've just completed a trail-blazing intensive support week with emergency care departments across Worcester.

Highlights of the week started with a SAFER ‘immersion’ experience, with staff and executives pledging to implement the tool.

The event featured exersises designed to  educate providers on the best way to conduct board rounds, how to have difficult conversations with relatives, and how to encourage  reluctant participants  to do  the  right  thing.

Taking the 6 A's audit model a step further, improvement  managers from our Emergency Care Improvement Programme (ECIP) led a  retrospective notes audit that showed 27% of  patients could have had their admissions avoided.

A paramedic pre-hospital care audit was also carried out, which showed that 50% of conveyances to emergency departments could  have been avoided by either transporting  or  directing the patient to an alternative destination.
