Lay Member for Finance and Planning, NHS Northamptonshire Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs)

NHS Northamptonshire CCG is due to formally be established from 1 April 2020 bringing together NHS Corby CCG and NHS Nene CCG. They are now seeking a candidate to undertake the role of the Lay Member for Finance and Planning for a 12 month fixed term to cover a period of maternity leave.

The two CCGs have a strong track record of collaborative working and have a sound foundation as organisations that are both “Good” rated by NHS England and delivered their financial break even controls for the last financial year (2018/19). The organisations are increasingly operating as a single commissioning vehicle across the Northamptonshire Health and Care Partnership and are in the final stages of formally creating the new single CCG for the whole county from April 2020.

The GP Chair Designate for the Northamptonshire CCG is seeking a candidate to undertake the role of the Lay Member for Finance and Planning for a 12 month fixed term to cover a period of maternity leave. Applications are particularly welcomed from candidates with recent NHS finance experience who are familiar with how CCGs work.

Lay Members bring an essential independent perspective to the CCG Governing Body; being separate from its day to day running gives them a unique view of the organisation and therefore a valuable perspective that will help the CCG develop services it delivers for patients and the local population.

Your role is to support the Governing Body and hold the Clinical Commissioning Group to account for the delivery of its strategic objectives. We are seeking a highly motivated and driven individual who has the ability to inspire public confidence and to promote good governance. The right candidate will be passionate about the NHS and have relevant recent NHS finance experience of operating in a leadership role in large and complex organisations, in particular in a CCG.

To be successful in the role you will need to have demonstrable evidence that you have the recent and relevant financial and audit experience, the ability and leadership qualities to influence within the CCG and partner organisations , excellent communication skills, and you will bring strategic insight and impartiality to the Governing Body offering constructive scrutiny and challenge. The successful candidate will chair the Finance, Procurement and Contracting Committee, the Remuneration and Terms of Service Committee and the Strategy and Planning Committee and will be required to attend a range of other Committees/meetings.

  • The closing date for applications is 26 February 2020.
  • Interviews for the role will take place on the morning of Tuesday 10 March 2020.

If you would like an informal discussion about the post please contact: Dr Joanne Watt, Clinical Chair, NHS Corby CCG and GP Chair Designate, NHS Northamptonshire CCG via Sarah Nightingale, Personal Assistant or by telephone on 01604 651409.

Applications will be accepted via NHS jobs. For further information on how to apply please contact our HR Resource Team via email: or via telephone: 03000 428426.
