Non-executive Director, Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust

Surrey & Borders NHS Foundation Trust is one of the leading providers of specialist mental health, drug and alcohol and learning disability services for people of all ages in southern England.

Surrey & Borders NHS Foundation Trust is one of the leading providers of specialist mental health, drug and alcohol and learning disability services for people of all ages in southern England. We work with people to improve their mental health and well-being so that they, and those that care for them, are able to live a better life.

The past year has been one of continued and significant progress, with the delivery of our clinical strategy to integrate mind and body health and an increased focus on partnership working, which has seen us engage with colleagues across the system on the provision of services for children, young people and families in Surrey, bringing together physical and mental health care for the first time, and working with Surrey Police to help emergency services support people appropriately: work which is integral to our new single point of access approach for people in mental health crisis. As an active participant in three local Integrated Care Systems – Frimley, Surrey Heartlands and Sussex & East Surrey  - we have also been working collaboratively to transform services for our communities and realise the ambition of the NHS Five Year Forward View.

As you can see, there is a lot going on, and this is an exciting time for a new Non-Executive Director to join us.  We are looking for someone with experience of operating at, or close to, Board level in the public, private or not for profit sectors and who brings a broad range of strategic and operational management skills. You should have a track record of delivering positive change in complex organisations, combined with a demonstrable ability to build and improve successful teams, work collaboratively and deliver in partnership.

Beyond these technical skills, however, we want a Board colleague whose capacity to challenge constructively can inspire and motivate: a team player with emotional intelligence, passion and humour who is able to influence - and communicate effectively with - all types of audience and who has a demonstrable empathy for the services we provide and the communities we serve.
