Changes to measurement of seven day hospital services (7DS)
In partnership with NHS England, we are introducing a new way of measuring 7DS for all trusts — replacing the previous survey with a self-assessment framework.
This will consist of a standard measurement and reporting template, with self-assessment against the existing four priority 7DS clinical standards, supported by local evidence. The self-assessment will then be formally assured by the trust board.
Your trust will need to complete a trial run by February 2019, with full implementation by June 2019. We have sent trust medical directors further

Updated care hours per patient day (CHPPD) guidance for mental health and community trusts
The CHPPD guide for mental health and community trusts will help trusts to deploy nursing and healthcare assistants more productively, so the right staff are delivering the right care to patients.
The guide has been updated ahead of the Allied Health Professionals (AHP) data collection in November when we will be collecting data from all mental health and community trusts.
Develop knowledge and skills in demand and capacity modelling
Applications for the demand and capacity trainer programme in the Midlands and East and the North regions are now open. This free, accredited six-month programme is designed to develop organisations’ capability and skills to reduce waiting times for patients.
Watch the prospectus video to find out more about the programme and to see the cohorts on offer across the country. Graduates will be equipped to train others, develop demand and capacity plans and spread knowledge more widely at a local level.

Have your say on the draft technology standards framework
NHS Digital has published its draft technology standards framework, setting out the early thinking and expectations for the use of digital, data and technology standards in health and care and supports the ambitions outlined in the government's technology vision for the future of health and care. Over time all NHS providers will be expected to meet these standards.
NHS Digital wants to collaborate with trusts to develop the final framework and specifications for each standard, and you are invited to comment on the proposals. Please also pass this on to your chief information officer and chief clinical information officer and have your say by emailing email@example.com.
New extended guidance for Child Death Review Partners
The Child death review: statutory and operational guidance sets out expectations for the review of all deaths of children under 18 years of age from whatever cause. Please note, the new child death review forms were published earlier this month.
Senior leaders who commission or provide services for children, should follow the procedures set out in this guidance. All other professionals who care for children, or who have a role in the child death review process, should follow this guidance to ensure they respond to each child death appropriately.
