Flu vaccinations for frontline staff

Protecting staff from preventable illness and subsequent absence from work will be a key component of maintaining operational performance this winter. NHS Employers and Public Health England have summarised the clinical evidence that supports the need for flu vaccination among healthcare workers.

October's flu vaccination data shows that many providers are already achieving above 70% uptake which is a good response to the CQUIN. However there is still 11-82% variation across the sector.

If your organisation would like support to encourage your staff to get vaccinated, please contact your local NHS Improvement relationship manager.

Are you using the emergency department (ED) patient safety checklist?

The ED patient safety checklist is a time-based framework that outlines clinical tasks that need completing for each patient in the first hours of their admittance to an ED. We are evaluating current use of this tool

Please complete this short survey about its use in your department by Wednesday 3 January.

From the Department of Health (DH): 30 day supplier payment terms

Directors of finance, please be aware that all public contracts awarded by providers should ensure that payments are made within 30 days of the date of receipt of a valid and undisputed invoice.

This is a requirement of Regulation 113 of the Public Contracts Regulations 2015  designed to ensure small and medium size businesses that may not be able to fully operate with longer payment terms, are not disadvantaged.

More information is available in this guidance on paying undisputed invoices.

From the Office of the National Data Guardian: Sharing health and care data

The National Data Guardian (NDG) has been looking at the circumstances under which health and care data may be shared, and the role that patients’ reasonable expectations play in shaping these circumstances.

The NDG has published two reports that explore how implied consent is used within health and care settings to share patient data and support individual care.

For further information, or if you have any queries, please email ndgoffice@nhs.net.
