NHS70 Parliamentary Awards: nominations close in two weeks

The NHS70 Parliamentary Awards are designed to celebrate the work of all NHS staff and those who work alongside them to improve and join up care in their communities.

Please nominate colleagues (an individual or team) for one of 10 awards by Friday 23 March.

Mental health trusts: apply by Friday 16 March to win a ‘Feel Good’ garden

To help celebrate the 70th birthday of the NHS, the Royal Horticultural Society is giving one mental health trust the chance to win the Feel Good garden from this year’s Chelsea Flower Show.

Non-specialist acute trusts to receive a combined quality and Use of Resources rating

All non-specialist acute trusts that undergo a Use of Resources assessment  will now receive a trust-level rating that combines quality and use of resources. 

Use of Resources assessments will be considered as a sixth key question alongside CQC’s quality ratings. Like CQC’s five quality questions, Use of Resources will be given a rating of outstanding, good, requires improvement or inadequate.

Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT): improving vascular surgery

The GIRFT programme has published a report setting out 17 recommendations to improve the way vascular surgery is delivered in the NHS in England. 

The report identifies opportunities that will save lives, deliver better patient outcomes, improve efficiency and reduce unwarranted differences between hospitals.  


Working together for the NHS: an event for NHS provider chief executives

Tuesday 13 March, 10am – 3.30pm, London

Chief executives, join Ian Dalton, Dido Harding and Simon Stevens next week at our event chaired by Chris Outram, vice-chair of NHS Providers. 

All provider chief executives are encouraged to attend the event, where you’ll: 

  • hear the vision for NHS Improvement and how we will be working more closely with NHS England
  • take part in discussion groups to shape the support we provide on leadership for improvement, the financial challenge, integrated care and productivity 
  • ask questions of Dido, Ian and Simon 

If you are not able to make the event, please ask your chair or a senior colleague to attend in your place.

NHS Standard Contract 2017-19: consultation on proposed National Variation

With the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) coming into force on 25 May, NHS England has published proposals  for in-year National Variations to the NHS Standard Contract 2017/18 and 2018/19 for consultation.

Comments on the proposals should be submitted by Tuesday 3 April 2018.

National strategic summit: delivering health and care in a digital age

Tuesday 27 March, Birmingham

The Local Government Association, in partnership with NHS Clinical Commissioners and supported by NHS Providers, is holding a strategic summit for senior leaders such as chief officers, directors, assistant directors and heads of service. 

It features a keynote from Lord O'Shaughnessy (Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Health) and speakers focusing on areas such as prevention, urgent and emergency care and managing demand.
