In 2013, the NQB published, 'How to ensure the right people, with the right skills, are in the right place at the right time: A guide to nursing, midwifery and care staffing capacity and capability' which focused on supporting NHS provider boards to achieve safe nursing and midwifery care staffing.
As one of the organisations that make up the NQB, we've helped to develop an updated safe staffing resource, building on the 2013 guidance. To help us achieve the Five Year Forward View’s ambitions, the principles contained in this revised resource now also apply to the broader multi-professional workforce in a range of care settings, and do so in a way that optimises productivity and efficiency while maintaining the focus on improving quality.
The resource is for NHS provider boards to help them assure the delivery of compassionate, effective, safe, sustainable high quality patient care. The resource will help providers to co-ordinate delivering the right staff and skills, in the right time and place.
We've also published an update on safe staffing improvement resources to support and enable NHS providers to make safe and sustainable staffing decisions in specific care settings.
