Sian Jarvis joined NHS Improvement as Executive Director of External Affairs in April 2018. She leads the organisation’s internal and external communications and engagement function, and is a member of NHS Improvement’s Executive Team. Sian advises the organisation’s Board on our overall relationship and engagement with the health sector, government and stakeholders.
Sian is a senior executive and adviser with 25 years experience across journalism, government, public health communications and business.
As the long standing Director General of Communications at the Department of Health (1999-2011) she was professional head for NHS communicators as well as a member of the Departmental and NHS Boards and led the public health marketing campaigns including Change4Life. Sian was awarded the CB in 2009 for her services to the Department of Health where she worked closely with six secretaries of state and more than 30 ministers over 12 years.
Sian left Whitehall in 2011 to join the leading supermarket Asda as Director of Corporate Relations, leading their media, Government and stakeholder relations work.
In 2013 established the consultancy Jarvis & Bo specialising in health and communications and continued working for Asda on developing their health strategy. She was a non-executive for med-tech business The Learning Clinic and now advises the health technology company System C while supporting a portfolio of other high profile corporate and charity sector clients on public health issues and brand reputation.
