What's in the guidance

As the Five Year Forward View sets out, better outcomes for patients can be achieved if providers collaborate across local health economies (LHE) to improve the quality and sustainability of services.

A number of providers are already doing this, through their Sustainability and Transformation Plans (STPs) or as part of a new care model.

In this guidance, we set out what we expect as a matter of good governance from providers when working in a LHE.

The guidance also contains:

  • what we mean by a LHE
  • how we can help
  • when and how might we consider taking action against a provider
