Training for general practice nurses (GPNs) has become increasingly difficult to access, and as such the competition to recruit has become more intense.
In response to this, the Leeds GPN strategy was developed with the aim of attracting 15 new nurses entering primary care.
With a preceptorship scheme established to broaden out to any staff member moving into a new area of work, each preceptee is supported by an experienced practice nurse through a two-year programme, offering training and development.
All 15 preceptorship places have been recruited through, with a degree of satisfaction reported from participants.
