Identifying and managing neonatal hypoglycaemia in full term infants

The British Association of Perinatal Medicine (BAPM) has worked with stakeholders and in collaboration with UNICEF-Baby Friendly Initiative to develop this framework for the identification and management of neonatal hypoglycaemia in the full term infant.

This framework was developed in response to findings from the hypoglycaemia working group, formed as part of our programme reducing admissions of full term babies to neonatal units. It includes recommendations based on:

  • a literature review including existing guidelines
  • data analysis of litigation themes
  • data analysis of admissions for hypoglycaemia
  • a national audit of practice including admission and thresholds for intervention
  • clinical experience
