A network of North West London (NWL) trusts are still in the process of developing a sector-wide strategy for imaging to collaborate on systemic issues facing radiology and to improve access for patients.
NWL undertook a network wide radiology IT procurement project that had to be paused, redesigned and restarted due to unrealistic aims and insufficient preparation, most notably in stakeholder engagement and supplier engagement. A procurement evaluation group was created which reviewed lessons learned and transformed them into critical success factors. This led the design of an improved procurement process that would ensure that the solution purchased was fit for purpose for the clinical needs of the region.
The case study highlights why good planning and preparation is vital to any network project. It also highlights the challenges faced and the solutions to overcome them.
