Red2Green improvement tool

Through collecting and reporting ward-level data, this tool supports wards to reduce the number of 'red days' in favour of value-adding ‘green days’.

Sometimes patients spend days in hospital that do not directly contribute towards their discharge. The Red2Green approach is a visual management system that identifies wasted time (red days) in a patient’s journey. It can be used in wards in both acute and community settings, and should be applied in conjunction with the SAFER patient flow bundle.

We've developed this tool in Excel so that is widely accessible across the NHS. If you enter patient level data into the worksheet on a daily basis, the tool builds a database showing graphical representation of this data which can help you identify frequent causes of delay and issues that need to be addressed.
