Safe, sustainable and productive staffing improvement resource for the deployment of nursing associates in secondary care

The purpose of this resource is to help providers of NHS-commissioned services, boards and executive directors to support their secondary care professionals to deploy nursing associates as part of their clinical teams.

This resource describes the principles for safe staffing including organisational, managerial and clinical setting factors alongside governance, leadership and reporting to ensure that nursing associates are safely and effectively deployed into the workforce.

When using this resource, you should also refer to the National Quality Board’s (NQB) 2016 safe staffing resource Supporting NHS providers to deliver the right staff, with the right skills, in the right place at the right time.

We have worked with clinicians and academics to develop this safe staffing resource. The results of the public consultation can be found in our feedback document.
