Skills, tools, shared learning, support and advice to support newly appointed medical directors.
The NHS needs effective and transformational clinical leaders.
The medical director is a fundamental member of any board, bringing clinical insight and the patients voice to the executive level; they are the future clinical leaders of the NHS. Nevertheless, transitioning into the medical director role can often be difficult and isolating.
Together with the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management we're committed to supporting new and current medical directors through this transition to become those clinical leaders and to feel prepared to address the challenges of a modern national health service.
We hope this guide will be a useful resource and will provide the tools and support medical directors need to overcome any challenges preventing the delivery of high quality care for all, now and in the future.
